What to say?..............Well I'm home again. My Mama decided she was NOT leaving the hospital!!!
So I went to her house in Lincolnton and got her some clean clothes and brought them to her.
I helped her take a shower at the hospital.Thank God that room has a bath with a shower in it! Also Mama has a cot that she can sleep in. I have been sleeping
on one of those blasted recliners when I did sleep. Daddy is restless at night and I was up every half hour.
The nurse gave him a good bath and I helped him with his lunch and shaved him which made him feel better. His color looks better. I think it is because he was
so dehydrated when he was admitted. He was just fussing to the nurse that mama thinks he is supposed to have something to drink in his hand all the time. Well
come to figure out he should have listened to her.
He doesn't like for Mama and me to talk in the room and besides Mama can't hear so you can't talk to her quietly. so we ended up sitting
wordlessly in the dark room while Daddy tried to sleep. Mama wanted to lie on her cot and take a nap too. She insisted that I come home. She said, and I agree,
there is no reason for us both to be there at this point and she Ain't going anywhere.
They are going to do a Liver Biospy tomorrow. I hope we don't get so much snow and ice that I can't drive there for that. Then sometime next week they
are still going to do a colonoscopy. For the life of me I can't see why they want to put him through all that if this cancer is so terminal.
I did ask the doctor why and he said to find where the cancer originated. I'm not sure I like that answer and I need to find out.If find something they can
do to make him feel better later. If so then that is ok. This Doctor is the kind that answers one question and is out the door before absorb his answer.
But never fear. My cousin, Lillie Mae, that loves and adores my dad and is also a retired RN is on the case! Yea! She can advise us. As a matter of fact as
soon as I called her and she started to ask questions it was on. She ended up calling the nursing station and talked to the nurse. I told thm to tell her
anything she wanted to know.
Lillie said she wanted to ask about eloctrolites and blood test results but she knew they wouldn't tell her that. I'm going to get Daddy to sign for
her to be able to find all that stuff. She was an RN on the cancer floor in Charlotte for almost 40 years and just retired about a year ago.
Before I left Mama took me out in the hall and told be she would not allow them the cut on him. Then she asked. " what in the world am I going to do when
he is released from the hospital. I told her that was an easy question. We will get a hospital bed and put it in the living room and I will stay with both of
them. I can sleep on
the couch and we can get home health to come in and help and I can make trips back and forth to my house to look after Steve..
I think that made her feel a lot better. I know she feels alone but she has me. I swear I am 58 years old and sometimes I still feel like my parents think I am
a child. She also has three sisters that are so good and will help out how ever they can.
